Spring Opportunities

Spring is always a fun time at Walnut. Help us keep it that way! How can you help?

We realize that you might not know what your spring schedule will be. That’s ok! If you are interested in helping, sign up now and we’ll make it work. See our calendar to help you plan ahead. Scroll to the bottom for a description of each activity.

Spring Volunteer Opportunities

    Help get the children's art matted and hung. Coordinate with Chair to supply craft for the evening
    Spring clean up and planting. Typically the Saturday closest to Earth Day
    Order from Dryer Farms. Set up sale and sell flowers and veggies to the students for Mother's Day
    Plan and coordinate events to show our teacher's how important they are to all of us. (Typically first week of May.)
    Partner with gym teacher to help at various fun stations for a day of outside fun
    Use the bounty of the garden to serve salads and tea sandwiches at friendly gathering in the garden during the last week of school
    Plan a fun night! All ideas welcome. Outdoor movie, bring in a special show, magician. Open to all great ideas
    Hire an ice cream truck or supply italian ice and coordinate volunteers to serve the students.
Event/Chair Description Time Commitment
Spirit Week  Lead the school in a special theme each day (examples: beach day, sports, rock and roll, crazy hat, blue and gold). Decorate the hallways to show our school spirit. Gather volunteers to help you. 1 hour a day each day of spirit week
Gertrude Hawk Candy Sale 

 

Serve as point of contact with candy company, distribute sales forms, advertise sale, collect forms, pack and distribute candy when it arrives. 2-3 hours
Adult Social (with LAS)        Work with your partner at LAS to plan a fun adult night (comedy, dinner etc). Promote event and handle RSVPs 2-3 hours
Roller Skating Party (with LAS) Work with a partner at LAS to plan a skating party. Handle replies and serve as point of contact with the facility. 1-2 hours
Family Art Night (with LAS)        Work with the art teacher and LAS volunteers to decorate the hallways with the kids’ art. Plan a craft for the evening. 3-4 hours mounting art and decorating
Big DigBrenda Mason  Lead our Garden Committee on a Saturday morning of getting the gardens ready for spring planting. Decide on key projects, order supplies and coordinate volunteers. 2 hours planning, 4 hours on day of event (typically coordinates with Earth Day)
Teacher Appreciation Week Work with class parents to organize a special week for our teachers. Typically, each grade sponsors a day and treats the teachers to something special. 3-4 hours
Plant SaleCourtney Paneri  Usually the Friday before Mother’s day, order variety of plants from nursery for sale at school. Coordinate volunteers to help the kids shop for mom 4-5 hours
Kindergarten Orientation Gather a few volunteers to help host incoming Kindergarten parents for orientation 1-2 hours
Field Day K-2 and/or Pre-school Work with the gym teacher to gather parent volunteers and coordinate games for the kids. Serve ice pops 2-3 hours
Family Fun Night Coordinate a night of fun for WAS students, courtesy of the PTA.  Past ideas have been pool party, laser light show, carnival, baseball game.  Work with a partner from LAS 2-3 hours of prep.  2-3 hours day/night of event.
Ice Cream Treats Arrange for the ice cream for all students on the last day of school 1-2 hours
